A grand-opening ceremony for the Apple shop at Best Buy’s Greenville store on Woodruff Road will be held today at 10 a.m.
Jeff Dudash, Best Buy spokesman, said locations in Anderson and Spartanburg are also among the 15 stores in South Carolina getting an in-store Apple shop.
The shop in Spartanburg may open June 2, a store manager said. An opening date for the Anderson store has not yet been released, an employee there said.
In the fall of 2006, Best Buy started a pilot program putting Apple shops within some of its stores. Because of the pilot’s success, the concept was expanded to 200 stores last year and to 600 stores this year.
Best Buy sites chosen for an in-store Apple shop are determined, in part, by market data that takes into account such things as local market receptivity to Apple, Dudash said.
So there’s probably something about Greenville and other Upstate locations “that has shown that there is a need or an opportunity for Apple products,” he said.
The in-store Apple shops carry an assortment of Apple notebooks, desktops, and accessories. It also carries the Apple MacBook Air.
Best Buy’s Apple standalone section is located in the store’s computing department.
