Play Hard Sports Looks To Build The Most Extensive Online Games
Posted by admin
On Monday, while I was posting all of the many jobs that Play Hard Sports has available on the Fantasy Sports Jobs page, I realized, I had not spent much time discussing what Play Hard is doing, and honestly, I think it is pretty cool.
Play Hard describes themselves as, “the first studio in North America to exclusively develop, publish, and distribute casual sports games and content over the Internet.†In other words, Play Hard is not targeting the hard-core gamers that will camp-out for the next edition of the Madden franchise. Rather, it is targeting the players who like to play fantasy football with their friends, and make moves only once or twice a week. Why? Because there are a lot more of the casual players than the hard-core players. Play Hard will focus on online games that will not require massive, or even moderate amounts of technology, and will just be simple. The site is currently in private beta, but you may request access to the beta via PlayHard.net.
Play Hard is taking a page from the Nintendo Wii playbook, and building a product that is designed to be simple, engaging, and appeal to as many people as possible. This is definitely not an easy task, but Play Hard has the resources to make a valiant effort–Play Hard recently received $5M in venture funding to help grow its business. Located in Foxboro, Massachusetts, Play Hard operates in one of the key football cities in America, which should provide endless amounts of inspiration.
In an industry that is quickly becoming saturated with dozens of variants of games that are appealing to the more intense player, it is refreshing to see someone take a new spin on the industry, and develop something that is simple, and broad-reaching. It’s a daunting task, and we wish them luck in achieving it.
